Tim has been adventuring since his first walking and rock climbing trips to Scotland as a boy, and his first ice-climbing trip to the Lake District in his early teens. Tim is a keen rock climber and mountaineer, and in the past three decades has organised and led numerous adventure trips and expeditions in North America, Africa, Europe, and South Asia.
Highlights of Tim’s adventures include leading 16 successful Kilimanjaro expeditions, climbing many 6000-meter peaks including Ama Dablam, and leading successful expeditions to Cho Oyo and Everest.
Tim has extensive experience in Nepal, having lived and explored there for more than 25 years, including a year in Mustang on the border with Tibet. Tim is an ex-Gurkha officer, having served 8 years, including in Nepal and Hong Kong. His fluency in Nepali and his understanding of Nepali culture mark him out from most other western leaders working in the country. Tim’s quest for adventure is still leading him to explore new areas of Nepal, most recently in the Far East.
In 2003, Tim led the BBC expedition to Mount Everest Base Camp for a live broadcast on the 29th May to mark the 50th anniversary of the successful first ascent by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary.
